Thank you. This tore at my heart.

I think often about the just…arrogance of so many American Jews and how the only difference between us and Israelis is where our ancestors happened to immigrate to. That’s it. There is nothing morally superior about us, it is literally just chance. How can an American Jew look at an Israeli one and see one as an occupier deserving of war and death and destruction while they sit in their safe family home in the United States? I truly don’t understand it.

Superb! I am as startled as I was by the first piece I read from you months ago, which caused me to subscribe. The prose! You combine the powers of a critic and a novelist. Can we really be so lucky as to have had you there making your effortless notes on those historic days? Please keep writing them up. In retrospect, like the original European night of broken glass, 10/7 was far more historic than we knew at the time. What happened 10/7 was not as important as what happened 10/8, when we saw, with shock, world-wide pleasure in what were then our most elite universities and media. Your notes recapture that sense of shock.

Love your writing. Also from Sea Point… but before your time I would guess.

Thank you for sharing these words. They are too relatable and reading them, even now - a 1000 days later, makes me realise yet again how much has been shattered on that day. And how much of the before we will simply not reach again, no matter how much healing will be done.

“Context matters.”

Euphemism for "Violence perpetrated against you is justified."
